Team compositions & investment order

Composition starting points; adapt them to hero levels, exclusive weapons, and game mode.
F2P rule: Do not spread UR shards, medals, and ore across ten heroes. Stabilize your main squad. A newly unlocked, under-invested hero does not automatically replace a developed one.

Main team — Season 3 F2P

Front row: Murphy + Scarlett (if she is 5★ and promoted to UR in S3). Back row: Kimberly + Mason + Marshall. If Scarlett has not been promoted yet, use your best already-developed defender. Williams and Stetmann are later-season options depending on your server’s release schedule.

Why it works: Two defenders protect Kimberly and Mason; Marshall boosts the team. Five Tank heroes benefit from the single-type squad bonus. In PvE, Mason also boosts back-row Tank heroes’ damage against monsters; this part of his kit does not apply in PvP.

Investment order: 1) Kimberly for damage, 2) Murphy for survival, 3) Marshall for his team buff, 4) Scarlett if her UR promotion and investment are ready, 5) Mason for PvE or depending on your roster. In PvP, replace Mason with a suitable DPS only if you have one that is properly developed.

Skills: Kimberly Tactical → Auto → Passive ; Murphy Tactical → Passive → Auto ; Scarlett Tactical → Passive → Auto (general defensive priority; adjust because her anti-monster PvE Tactical skill is situational); Mason Tactical/Passive depending on the PvE goal; Marshall Tactical → Passive → Auto. Starting point based on community guides; confirm in-game star thresholds.

F2P transition team

Front row: Murphy + Scarlett (if available), or your best already-developed defender. Back row: Kimberly + Mason + Marshall. In PvE, Mason is especially useful; in PvP, compare him with your other DPS options.

Why it works: Avoid sacrificing a team that already wins just to use a newly unlocked but underdeveloped UR hero. Mason can remain useful against bosses/in PvE even if he leaves the main PvP team.

When to change: Compare survivability, damage, and results in the same content. Replace Mason in PvP only when an available, developed DPS performs better; Stetmann belongs to a later server progression phase depending on the release schedule.

Avoid: Spending universal shards without targeting a specific breakpoint.

The other two troop types: target teams vs. the Season 3 release schedule

Important: a target composition from later seasons is not necessarily the right team to build on your Season 3 server today.

Aircraft team — target composition

Target composition: DVA (carry), Carlie (protection), Schuyler (control), Lucius (shield), Morrison (secondary DPS). This is not a complete Season 3 team: DVA is available early, Carlie arrives in S2, Schuyler in S3 week 3, Lucius in S4, and Morrison in S5 according to the guide consulted.

Investment priority: DVA first; Schuyler next for control; Carlie/Lucius to keep DVA alive; Morrison after the core. If you do not have the core, do not spread F2P resources to force an incomplete mono-Aircraft team.

Gear guideline: Gun then Chip on DVA as the carry; defensive pieces on Carlie/Lucius if the protection line collapses; offensive pieces on Schuyler/Morrison after the carry. Adjust based on incoming damage type.

Missile team — target composition

Target composition: Fiona (PvP carry), Tesla (PvE/monsters), McGregor, Adam, Swift. This is not a complete Season 3 team: McGregor arrives in S3 week 6, Adam in S4, and Fiona in S5. Tesla and Swift are available earlier.

Investment priority: Tesla if your main goal is PvE/zombies; Fiona for PvP once available; then invest in supporting pieces. This troop type lacks natural defenders: borrowing Tank heroes for the front row can help, but sacrifices some single-type bonuses.

Gear guideline: Gun then Chip on the carry for your chosen mode; survival/defensive gear on the hero who must hold the line. Do not craft a full set for five Missile heroes if your server has not unlocked the core team yet.

Gear priority — Tank team

Legendary gear crafting order, with exceptions based on incoming damage.
OrderGear pieceHeroReason / exception
1GunKimberlyMain carry: attack and Tactical damage. Standard first offensive investment.
2RadarMurphySurvival against energy/skill damage. Ne fabrique pas le Gun de Murphy avant celui de Kimberly dans ce plan standard.
3GunStetmann ou MarshallStetmann if you need DPS; Marshall if his buff produces a larger team damage gain. Decide using battle reports.
4RadarScarlettFor the second defender in Season 3 if she is promoted to UR and remains in the lineup; move this ahead of the secondary Gun if the front line collapses.
5ChipKimberlyComplete the offensive build after the Gun and Murphy’s survival needs are covered.
6+Remaining piecesMason, Marshall, Murphy, ScarlettChip for DPS; Radar/Armor for the hero who dies too quickly. Counter the damage type that defeats you before investing further in offense.

General roles: Gun = attack; Chip = offensive/critical stats; Armor = physical defense; Radar = energy defense. Community team/gear guide predates Season 3: Tank Class Guide. Treat this as a starting point, not a universal rule.

Upgrade priorities: what should you level first?

Aim for meaningful breakpoints instead of spreading universal shards across heroes.

1 · Kimberly

Main carry: levels, Tactical skill, then stars/breakpoints that improve her burst. Do not invest in a secondary DPS at the same pace before she is properly developed.

2 · Murphy

Invest enough for him to survive the enemy’s first rotation; upgrade Tactical, then Passive. Check the in-game defensive breakpoint text before planning star upgrades.

3 · Scarlett (S3)

If she reaches 5★ and you have the seasonal UR promotion badge, she becomes a candidate for the front line. Prioritize defense; her anti-monster Tactical skill is mainly useful in PvE. Confirm the promotion and effects in-game before committing resources.

4 · Marshall

Upgrade Tactical first for the team attack buff, then Passive. Raise his priority if a breakpoint significantly improves the team’s overall damage.

5 · Mason (S3 / PvE)

Useful in PvE because he boosts back-row Tank heroes’ damage against monsters. This bonus does not apply in PvP, so do not confuse PvE and PvP rankings. Stetmann is a later-season option on some server schedules.

Universal shards

Save UR shards for a specific hero and breakpoint. Confirm exact bonuses and seasonal changes in the Season 3 game client.

How to read skill priorities

Defender

1. Tactical (top right) — usually the main mitigation or defensive-support skill.

2. Passive (bottom left) — defensive or survival bonuses, depending on the hero.

3. Auto (top left) — usually less important for a pure tank.

Attacker

1. Tactical (top right) — main burst-damage skill.

2. Auto (top left) — consistent offensive contribution.

3. Passive (bottom left) — general third priority, unless the hero’s passive significantly changes their performance.

Support

There is no universal order. The guide recommends Monica: Passive → Tactical → Auto in PvE. Marshall and Sarah: Tactical → Passive → Auto.

F2P tip

The guide advises avoiding a large level gap between priority skills; around 5–10 levels is a rough reference. It also recommends developing the main squad before catching up the secondary squad.

Sources and data limitations

Portraits are sourced from public LastWar Wiki media and load from the internet. Heroes without a verified image use initials rather than an uncertain portrait.

The original page Heroes Archives currently lists pages such as Violet, Marshall, Murphy, Lucius, Swift, McGregor, Adam, Schuyler, Williams, Morrison, Carlie, Kimberly, Stetmann, DVA, Fiona et Tesla. This roster reflects that visible selection and adds a few common entries explicitly marked “needs verification” where details were not cross-checked here.

The wiki describes its data as community-maintained. Some hero pages list stats that depend on stars, level, and version, so combat numbers are not presented here as universal values.
